About Ross Arena:
Ross
Arena was started by brothers Bill Ross and Gary Ross, and is family
owned
and operated by the Ross family. Bill Ross had worked on
cattle ranches out West, and along with
his brother Gary Ross, they wanted to start a new horse arena in
Illinois that would try to maintain the culture and flavor of the Old
West, with the emphasis on traditional horseback riding and
cattle-handling techniques. In the spring of 2006, construction
began on the
arena and is now considered one of the best in the region. The
soil that was used for the arena was brought in and mixed to certain
specifications, and is suitable for the highest level of competitions.
There are two adjacent arenas at Ross Arena, and they measure 125 FT x
250 FT and 66 FT x 130 Ft respectively. Ross Arena built a new 100 FT x 200 FT indoor arena in 2009. The grand opening for
Ross Arena was held on August 12, 2006, and we had over sixty riders that
attended that event. Ross Arena offers the following
events: Roping
Practice, Penning and Sorting, Reining and Working Cow Horse, Barrels,
Poles, Trail Course, Play Day Activities, Western Pleasure, and
Clinics. Ross Arena provides cattle for your use, 4-H and
horse clubs are welcome. In the spring of 2007, Ross Arena is opening
our new trail course, The Great Western Challenge.
The trail course is located where The Great Western Railroad once
occupied. This new trail course will be challenging, and we
encourage
you to try it out.
